It should accept "van" as answer. But nonetheless a good grid with some evil red herrings.

it does accept 'Van' as answer. Not sure I understand comment. Thanks

No, it didn’t accept van as an answer for me either

Strange - I just did it again and it accepted 'Van' for that row - I am on Chrome. I did set that as the answer. Not sure why it did not accept it for you. Sorry.

I checked the source and 'Van' is provided with single quotes around it, unlike the other answer words. Not surprised that some browsers may choke on it; there are have been a variety of bugs related to such punctuation.

OK thanks Jonbob - I will use double quotes in future, or maybe none to avoid browser interference.

People are unlikely to add the quotes in exactly the same way as you so best leave them out.

Nice tricky grid. Was kicking myself for being flummoxed by caddy, which I was sure must be a golf one. As to "Van" and "van", maybe I'm being simplistic but isn't it because of the initial letter, uppercase or lowercase? Strictly speaking, Van has to be used with Vancouver and Morrison. And that prompts my wee quibble: the grid entry really has to be "couver" as the answer isn't VanCouver.
