Timmon
The red group could also just say plants. Otherwise a fine not too difficult grid.

Fair comment Timmon...I am still fairly new to composing grids, so I am making a few mistakes as I get up top speed, but I hope it doesn't distract too much from people enjoying the grids

Precious stones too, decent grid but acceptable answers could do with expanding.

I did agonise over precious stones but apparently Diamonds, Rubys, Sapphires and Emeralds are the only ones classed as precious stones. the rest are semi-precious..according to Google anyway.....but I do appreciate the comment Vest .....Thanks

No worries Ossie, it was a good grid. I gave myself the points anyway. Keep going.

Just to point out that the Wedding Anniversaries category are also all Pokémon game titles, as are Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby. The grid may have been easier if I didn't know that....

good grid - i was just let down by putting precious stones.

Got them all - but two didn't accept my answers. I like to type in the minimum when adding answers so might just be me being lazy.

I got 10/10 and typed gems. But no unique answer as you can swap Diamond with Sapphire or Ruby.

FirstGofer.....can I clarify your comment re unique answers please.
Are you saying that no answer should be able to be in more than one group......surely that is part of what makes the puzzles....puzzling! Or have I misinterpreted your comment?

The trouble is that you can make the anniversary group with 8 clues... this is excessive and unhelpful

In case Gofer misses your question OSSIE - yes you're right. Answers should fit in more than one group, BUT the whole grid has to have a UNIQUE solution. If you can swap, say, 2 items, one in group A and one in Group B but still have a perfectly sensible grid then the grid is flawed. It has 2 solutions.

Puzzle #18023 is one of mine where I made that mistake OSSIE - so you can what I mean. There's a fish fork as well as a fish knife. Therefore two solutions. The grid is bollocksed.

OSSIEP9
Ah...thanks for the clarification Bindipper......blimey that makes it a lot harder but I'll persevere!

No worries OSSie. A guy on here with whom I exchanged a few messages talked about having a 5,5,5,5 set up or 6,5,5,4 as a guide. So each group has one red herring OR one group has two herrings and one, usually a word type link, manages without any. I think that's a sound starting point. If you have lots of squares that fit the same link, it's hard to avoid having two solutions. Good luck!
