In the absence of a forum, a question here:
When you make grids do you use a diagram and mark on the red herrings somehow, or do you just do lists? I write 4 lists with the ones that will fit in more than one group in capital letters but it’s not very elegant. I want a better way to do it.

Probably down to personal preference. I make 4 lists each with a title. If a word/element fits in more than one list I enter it in each applicable list. When each word/element has been selected for a specific list I put a tick next it. If that word/element occurs in another list I put a cross next to it. Repeat the process until each list has 4 ticks. Finally I check all selected words/elements in each list against all selected words/elements in the other lists (to determine if they are interchangeable) in an attempt to avoid a grid with more than one solution but I can still get caught out through my own ignorance - someone will usually spot it if you do not!

Cheers 4by4. I’ve been wondering if, instead of lists, a kind of 4 section Venn diagram might be worth making but I can’t picture how it would work.

I am still new to this but I am having most success when I try to do a list of 4 (at least) red herrings down the page and then work away from that.

And for the record..I concur on Stuart Hall....memories of a very funny TV show, and of roaring with laughter watching it with my long departed Nan have been sadly sullied.

Thanks Ossie. I’m now trialing 4 rectangles (arranged so they are in each corner of a page). They each have double arrows pointing from them to each of the other three rectangles. The clues that can only fit in one link go inside the rectangle, the clues that form the crossovers go on the arrows. I’ll see if that works better.

On the other subject, give praise to YouTube. The penguins and many other games can still be seen there.
