@ RossChrisWisty - I don’t know what group you mean but I will say the states of matter group was last added and is noticeably more “cryptic crossword” style than the rest and thus likely more elusive.

Outstanding - I love the connections and the cryptic clues.

5/10, for what it's worth, but a huge amount of fun.

I hate to break it to you, but spiders are not insects! As a whole, not so great and too obscure - esp the likes of "Droop": getting your synonym, then reversing it, then connecting that to a state of matter. A bridge too far!

@ Tim - thanks for the spidery tip, I’ll remember this in future! I readily expected Fiendish but kept cryptic clues to a minimum to ensure that some groups are doable. Sorry to hear it is not your cup of tea but hopefully it will be for others.

Ok, so I massively struggled with this. However, the concept was brilliant and decently executed. Once the groups were resolved I had that facepalm moment "OF COURSE!!!!"

Well done and imo the spider thing didn't matter because I was going to put insects and when realising my mistake used the term bug instead. You had selected your keywords well and that was accepted!!

I disagree with other comments that it was too cryptic. I really enjoyed this and would definitely play another similar grid. I got 7 but went for diamond and Ace of Spades instead of "Base" as a card suits connection, which was stupid really because I knew the "bat" answer!

Utter genius! rightly listed as fiendish- I got boys names but didn't spot the Bond link as I thought one was Gregor! I didn't solve it but I loved it, love this format.
