Never heard glass parasol used in that context. Googled it and couldn't find any results using it in that context. So even though a parasol made of glass may not serve its purpose, I'm not sure it's "idiomatic" as a simile for useless.

It was on a list that I found. Probably not that common, but "idiomatic" was not required to get a point; I just added it as an extra explanation/ for clarity.

That wasn't me nitpicking about terminology. It not being idiomatic actually made finding the group in the first place quite difficult. I for one tried Chocolate Teapot, Inflatable Dartboard and the more commonly used Glass Hammer with literally every other option on the board before giving up on that group.

Sorry if it was frustrating. As it was listed as a used phrase I assumed that people had heard of it. I sometimes add a less known answer to a group that contain more obvious clues- it's intended to keep it interesting- but not make it impossible. It's hard to know what other people will know, but I figured that the sweets would be a giveaway- lead to a process of elimination. I chose it as it provided a red herring for the fungi group (parasol fungus)- not to be deliberately obscure- again, apologies if you didn't enjoy this grid.

No need to apologize. I did think it was plausible in that group, I'd just never heard it said and couldn't find it on google afterwards, that's all.
