Having them with lower case letters at the start makes the one group too easy to spot.. Also, I think including Sinead O'Connor in the "gone mad" group is a little on the nose

I'm not comfortable with the use of a real persons name in a group that passes a subjective opinion.

Hilarious to make fun of mental illness, it could happen to you one day. I wonder where you'll go next with your super-cool anti-pc crusade, perhaps racism?? Sad old man.

My dear Wendy, there are no limits to humour, as indeed there appears to be no limits to the narcissistic pious attitude of so many although I see that ageism isn't out of bounds for you....selective morals are so convenient aren't they!

And for the record Wendy I have and I am.....and humour, dark and otherwise, is a major part of the healing process...........mayhap you should not be so quick to make sweeping assumptions and accusations about peole based on a puzzle grid...because that really is insane!!

This is the type of humour which always provokes a backlash- Those of us who laugh at our own situations can be a little dark at times which can feel uncomfortable to others on the outside. The intention here, to me, was recognised and relatable- some of the worst gay jokes I've ever heard were from my gay housemate in college. Likewise age, race; we all have a humour line we'll not cross, but it's personal. With this sort of "Gervaisian" humour I think that the intention is to create frisson rather than offence- if it does cause offence that is unfortunate and comes down to judgement or audience tastes- again very personal. Mental health an issue very close to my own experiences (I'm sure I'm not unique in that). I was not offended by Ossie's joke as I read into the intention of the joke- if it has a victim it is less the mentally ill and more the "quick to react". I do respect EVERYONE'S opinions here and can well understand why some found it offensive. I've had "offensive joke" grids put up in my name by other people- I was more peed off by the identity theft than the "ha ha- willies" stupidity of the humour! Love to all. Ossie, keep healing. :)

I think Lorna has summed it up perfectly...whether people will be able to see past their own prejudice and appreciate her words remains to be seen

Wendy
Ossie, that obviously struck a nerve, now you know how some others feel by your many inflammatory grids and comments. I'm sorry you have also had to deal with the scourge of mental illness, and it's great that you've been able to use humour as a coping mechanism. You can laugh at yourself, that's your call. But not at others. Have you considered how damaging it could be to others not in the same place as you, who perhaps feel ashamed of their condition and are struggling to ask for help, to see that 'the public' still think the mentally ill are a big joke, 'mad' 'lunatics' who belong in 'asylums'? Good for you if dark humour helps, but perhaps you could keep the darkest stuff private and only share it with those of a similar disposition. The majority of us are 'woke' for a reason, I personally was hurt rather than offended by your choice of language.

Thanks Wendy. I do see your point. I'm not that keen, personally, on the everything in black and white, "woke" zeitgeist- I agree with the sentiment, but I think that the often judgemental/ accusatory censure that comes with it can be more hurtful, come from a worse place, than the "offense". A slightly misjudged joke? Intended to amuse or laugh off a difficult subject. Directly calling an individual offensive? Intended to police how people think and speak, and to insult that individual, maybe feel a bit superior. Language like "sad old man" could be as easily, lazily attacked. I am soooooooo glad that there is a current trend towards speaking more openly about mental health. I think humour is an often dangerous but very important part of breaking the taboo. I HONESTLY think that Ossie's joke has been misunderstood- the joke is not that it is ok or funny to throw the offending terms about- as a sufferer himself I can see that he isn't saying that at all. It's not a joke I would have made but I don't think Ossie deserves a personal attack. I was being ragged on this website and when it came down to it Ossie was kind and supportive. Please give the benefit of the doubt. Humour is a grey area. Wendy I'm truly sorry you were hurt by this and I do appreciate your view but am playing devil's advocate for the sake of balance. Love to all :)

I think I’ll give this humour with an edge a bit of a spin.
Group of Farage, Rees-Mogg, Gove and Johnson -
“They’re all Brexiting twats whose intellect is considerably smaller than they think it is.”
See how that goes down.
