10/10. Nice grid! I love that Lysander tips you off to a category.

Ugh.

Have you actually tasted a quark?

Khitty
I don't know why I'm so ridiculously happy that you know that quarks come in flavors. It's such a goofy yet charming (heh) term for 'type'. Like knowing owls come in parliaments, or a female donkey is a jenny.

@Bob "They seek to make an ass of me!" (paraphrased)
Lysander tipped me off here, same as the others (I wonder how tricky the category would be if you included 'Hero' instead). I forgot about Snug the joiner for ages before some missed gear in my brain finally clicked.

The -ander category was my last to get. I figured it had to be something like a shared suffix. Don't remember what finally clued me in.

To be honest, after the other categories, the 'toys' was almost too easy.

Love the -ander category

@Khitty Thank you for this long, kind response to my puzzle! :)

You're right, "toys" was a bit easy. But Puck and Top could also be toys, so there are kind of 6 possibilities there. Plus I figured not everyone would be familiar with Shakespeare or subatomic particles, so a more straightforward category was necessary.
