You definitely create puzzles in the true spirit of Only Connect (rather than, say, The $????... Pyramid ;) ); better than most! for sure!

I liked this one with the exception of one group (the one which included Warehouse) which was a bit of a stretch/shoehorning/or-maybe-just-too-clever-for-me?... :)

Enjoyed this one, and learned a new word! (ani). Every day's a school day! Thanks!

some very nice groups here, hard to get even after the time is up. Just the pronunciation one for me. (Despite the fact that, being quite fussy, Aluminum in also spelt differently, as Aluminium.)

Could you please explain stock clue.? Brain freeze.

not sure- there are times when a hard grid isn't necessarily a good grid- this is one of those times

I really enjoyed this one, and the themes felt creative yet natural (though even after solving the grid, I didn't figure out the theme with Warehouse: I noticed two ended with names of rivers and got sidetracked). Being a crossword buff helped with Panic.

Wait, how do Americans pronounce laboratory?

Fantastic grid! I didn't stand much of a chance (3/10), but fantastic nonetheless!

Tejayes
Tricky, but I managed to get 10/10! It's almost like four Round 1 puzzles.

being extremely obscure for its own sake

Very good, hard but fair groups. I got 7/10, I didn't get the stock group, though I have no argument with it.

My criticisms would be a) if you're going to hide 3 letter words inside others, using obscure vocab seems a bit harsh, and b) as alumn(i)um is spelt differently, it seems an odd example of a different pronunciation.

Agree with gappy's closing comments.

Kilo should be lower case k as a metric prefix

TR
Some of them are good, but aluminum isn’t pronounced different in England, it’s a different spelling; aluminium.

Ray Kemp
Excellent but some of the groups too obscure for me!

Tough but the connections were fair. No overlaps that I could see - that wouldn't matter too much in terms of complexity although it would both give and take away. More overlaps mean harder to solve but easier to spot connections.

I got the vitamin etc. one even though i didn't know "Lieutenant" was pronounced differently, and it took me a bit to get the K connection, but the other two I had no idea about. I didn't even know an "ani" was a bird. The grid stumped me completely, though.

Diabolical!
And instead of the usual approach of red herring associations, you've just gone with none of the words having any clear links whatsoever! o.0

I think the pronunciation one is a bad one because most words are technically pronounced differently between American and British English. The pronunciation differs in many different dimensions, and this grid just happen to pick an eclectic few (not even different in all the same way!)

Very US not just pronunciation K in baseball scoring but no grumbles, clever

That was tough, 0/10. But I feel like it was fair. Super clever wall.

I disagree with "aluminum" - "aluminium" is arguably a different word, not a different pronunciation.
(4 years, 3 months ago)

dsljds
I've heard the American pronunciation of laboratory but thought it was just a lazy/common mispronunciation. But I googled it and apparently it's just their accepted pronunciation. Do have to take issue with 'aluminum' though. It's a completely different word from 'aluminium'. Good grid otherwise.

Fabulous how people can just google if an ani is a bird and yet insist that it isn't one despite what all the ornithologists say. Great grid, really got me.
(3 years, 6 months ago)

Quillen
I like the categories, very interesting ideas, but I think that the group containing laboratory should be more forgiving when naming it. I believe I typed "multiple pronunciations" and it didn't give me the point. Very good puzzle, though; I really enjoyed it.
