I only managed one line but really clever connections. Ty.

Really fun, thanks! I solved the wall but missed one of the connections; my knowledge of non-UK VW models needs some work!

Denied 10 points for spelling "color" with a U!
Forgiven because of the greatness of the grid.

Sorry, Barry, I did allow 'colour', but only plural. I have fixed it to include singular. Thanks.

Very interesting idea for a wall—at first, I thought you were a madman, but I gradually got the direction and appreciate trying something more complex. Since each of these are more like a Round 1 connection rather than a Round 3 group, though, very tough to try and decipher them for groups in the timeframe. A few specific thoughts, meant constructively, hope that’s okay!
I’m guessing the inclusion of Germany in the Atlas clue was meant as a hint for the category, but it ends up making that clue not as direct a match for its category like the others, I think, if that makes sense. The golf clue gets the point across, but “negative” feels slightly imprecise as a reference to low scores. The “every man” clue may be less pinned than the others in its category—if intentional, no worries, but if not, maybe another specific proper name like the other three would be a slightly tighter set. And in the colors, the puzzler in me always wants the set to consistently cross between words—RED is a bit looser than the others both for being such a short word/fragment to miss, and because it doesn’t bridge. My focus on the tightness and directness of the groups mostly comes from the more complex clues, to make sure everything fits together precisely given the extra layer of solving.
Out of curiosity, by the way, were golf, polo, and India an intentional red herring category for the NATO alphabet? Devious, if so, I couldn’t imagine that wasn’t one of the groups!

Thanks for the comment, David, it's a lot to take in, but I do appreciate the time you took to post your thoughts.
The grid is more involved than a typical connecting wall, and I want quizzers to have enough time to read and think about the clues, and so I increased the time limit to five minutes.
You are right that 'Germany' is what I hope to be a subtle hint its group as Volkswagen is a German automaker, the important part of the clue, however, is 'book of maps' (Atlas).
A major factor in writing clues like this is limited space, so I try to be pithy but concise, and the negative integers that lead on Golf scoreboards lend themselves to a view, in my opinion, that 'negative is positive'.
I do take your point about consistency in the color group; in my defense, I will say that it was easy to find words that include 'red', and bridging the other colors was done so as not to give the game away in that group so easily.
Thank you for spotting the phantom NATO connection. It was unintentional, but if you found a new layer of complexity in the grid, I salute you!
Thank you again for your comment.
