@D I assume Basic here means Galactic Basic, from Star Wars. It's a bit of a fudge, if it's that, but that's all I found except for the computing term.

@D @Midge Galactic Basic Standard, known in-universe as Basic, is indeed from Star Wars. One of those things that people never say the full name of- even I didn't know that's what it was short for, I've only ever heard Basic. It was after getting for the programming languages, along with Java.
