The Crosby films are well known, so no niche knowledge needed, and the hotels are common too. The birds and the instruments also fall easily within the general category of general knowledge. I did not get either the birds or the instruments, but the fault was mine- I just failed to spot the concealed words. So no, Jim, the grid was far from impossible, just very sneaky.
