Could someone explain buttery?

Might be a lack of knowledge on my part but not sure how buttery=short. I guessed it based on maybe "shortbread", which has butter in it, and the other clues in the category, but as far as I can tell the "short" in "shortbread" refers to its crumbly texture not its butteriness. Enjoyable grid all the same

Yes. The butter provides the shortness ie crumble.

Hey Trix, Terry loved this but if Terry may make a suggestion, the buttery one is not great! I would maybe swap for "alcoholic liquor drink" these are called shorts for example or abreviations being shorthand, Terry thinks this would be great!!

I guess a lot of you don't know anything about making pastry. The fat ingredient, often butter, is called shortening. And pastry made this way is often called shortcrust pastry.

I guess the ppl making snarky comments about not understanding pastry don't get that shortcrust pastry is MUCH LESS fatty ( buttery)

Not a fan of this one. Not much of it made sense. The clues seemed too esoteric.

The grid is great Trix, but well within figuring out one unknown clue by a process of elimination!
You obviously spent a bit of time on it and it is a cute idea. I was wondering how you could fit red herrings in, but couldn’t think of any. Anyway made me smile- thanks!
